Burdock can grow to a height of
five feet. It has reddish-purple flower
heads and spiny bracts. This biennial
is native to Asia and Europe, but
can also be found in the United States.
Properties:
Burdock root contains substances
with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal
properties. It also acts as a blood
cleanser, alterative, diuretic, and
lymphatic cleanser.
Healing Properties:
Burdock is a blood purifier and
clears congestion in the body. The
herb also stimulates the elimination
of toxic materials in the body and
can be used to prevent hair loss.
Ailment Treated:
The root is used to treat problems
with the urinary tract, fungal infections
such as ringworm, skin infections,
acne, and rheumatoid arthritis. The
herb has also been found useful against
eczema, cancer, diabetes, and liver
diseases.
Side Effects:
The herb is a stimulant.
Contraindications:
Aloe vera contains a strong laxative
and should never be used in large
doses. Long-term internal use (more
than 2 weeks) can lead to potassium
depletion causing mineral imbalance
in the body.
