Other names: Pharyngitis (inflammation
of the throat), laryngitis
(inflammation
of the larynx),
tonsillitis (inflammation
of the tonsils)
Description:
A sore throat
is the result of a viral or bacterial illness.
However, sore throats can also be caused
by local irritation due to dust, dry air,
environmental pollutants, and cigarette
smoke. During the illness, the throat can
feel scratchy, hot, and painful and swelling
can make swallowing difficult. Sore throats
occur most often in late winter and early
spring.
About a third of sore
throats are considered strep throats and
are due to an infection by the streptococcus
bacteria. This bacteria is very relentless
and contagious. Strep throat can lead to
rheumatic fever (and can cause heart damage)
if left untreated. A fever, joint aches
and pain, and muscle spasms after a throat
infection can be signs of rheumatic fever.
Strep throat is characterized
by redness in the throat, dark spots on
the back of the roof of the mouth, and swollen
tonsils. The tongue may be red with white
spots, and there may be tender lymph nodes
on the sides of the neck.
Throat inflammation
is characterized according to the location
of the illness:
Pharyngitis
is an inflammation of the throat and can
occur in infections such as the common cold
and influenza. The mucous membrane in the
throat may be inflamed and covered by a
whitish membrane or a pus discharge.
Laryngitis
is an inflammation of the voice box due
to a viral infection in the upper airways.
A common cold can usually bring about this
condition. Laryngitis can be caused by allergic
reactions, inhalation of irritants, and
even excessive use of the voice. A change
in the tone of voice, or even a loss of
voice, are the most noticeable symptoms,
although there may be pain in the throat
and a fever in the body.
Tonsillitis is
an inflammation of the tonsils. The pain
is felt in the ears and the tonsils are
swollen and bloodshot.
Herbs
Used:
Urtica dioica (Nettle), Calendula
officinalis (Marigold), Ginkgo biloba (Ginkgo), Achillea
millefolium (Yarrow), and petrofilin
extract.
HS
Products:
Ofipetrin
Tincture.
Recommendations:
Although we market Ofipetrin as a general
bio-rejuvenation principle, we found that
it can cure a sore throat within 24 hours
if used twice daily, even after the infection
begins taking its course. From personal
experiences where the sore throat infection
was so bad that it included headaches
and a painful inflammed throat, Ofipetrin
(three droppers before bedtime and two
droppers in the morning) completely relieved
the symptoms. Ofipetrin was used for
several more days to completely eliminate
the infection.
