Other names: Pyrexia
Description:
Fever is defined
as a body temperature above 98.6°F when
measured in the mouth. Most fevers are caused
by bacterial or viral infections, but can
also be due to dehydration, allergic or
toxic reactions, cancer, HIV, and even overexertion.
Fever is a sign that the body is fighting
against microorganisms responsible for the
illness. In these cases, proteins called
pyrogens are released into the body and
they raise the body temperature in order
to try to help white blood cells destroy
the invading organisms. The increased temperature
increases the production of white blood
cells and enhances their response speed
and killing capacity.
Fever is an effective
way in which the body defends itself because
viruses and bacteria do not survive easily
in areas of high temperature. It is one
of the ways in which the body fights infection.
As fever sets in, the body increases its
temperature by making you feel cold. Shivering
also generates extra heat and raises the
body temperature. This is why people with
fevers actually feel cold even though their
bodies may be burning. The blood from the
skin surface is moved to the interior of
the body in an effort to reduce heat loss.
When the invading organisms
are destroyed, the body returns back to
its normal temperature. The loss of excess
heat takes place through sweating and the
movement of blood to the skin. Chills are
a common sign that the temperature is being
lowered.
Herbs
Used:
Scutellaria baicalensis (Skullcap), Eleutherococcus
senticosus (Siberian ginseng), Echinacea
purpurea (Echinacea, Coneflower), Zingiber
officinale (Ginger), and Aloe
arborescens (Aloe).
HS
Products:
Viracilin
Tincture and Ofipetrin
Tincture.
Recommendations:
We recommend using Viracilin in the morning
and Ofipetrin in the evening. Viracilin
fights the infection while Ofipetrin reduces
the fever and boosts the body's energy
levels. It is best to begin using these
products as soon as the first signs of
sickness appear (scratchy throat) and to
continue using them for several days until
all symptoms disappear. Our experiences
have shown that a sickness can be completely
avoided if these steps are taken.
